Bonesweeper Prototype is a free puzzle video game for desktop computers. It was created by an independent developer who goes by the name Cheeseness. It takes cues and inspiration from the classic game, Minesweeper, and adding its unique twist to it, with Paleontology as its central theme.
Bonesweeper Prototype offers multiple "dig sites" of varying sizes to choose from, as well as fossil types that you can uncover. Do note, however, that this game is just a prototype and is still in active development. Thus, you can expect more changes to come in future updates.
How do I play Bonesweeper Prototype?
To begin playing, choose a dig site (map) from the available choices—they all vary in size, difficulty, and the type of fossil. As mentioned earlier, Bonesweeper Prototype was inspired by Minesweeper. As such, its gameplay is quite similar to the classic game. Excavate bones by digging the tiles around them. In between digs, assemble skeletons from the fossils you find.
Bonesweeper Prototype offers players various control schemes. Depending on your preference, you can play using your mouse, keyboard, or gamepad. It also has partial text-to-speech (TTS) functionality, which can be enabled during startup. In addition, if multiple people are going to play the game, it can support multiple user profiles and is able to track and save progress for each one.
There are some things that could use some improvement in this game, though. For one, the UI design is quite plain, using only solid colors for backgrounds. Another is that the graphics textures are rough around the edges and could use some smoothing. These things are to be expected, though, since this is just a prototype.
